Crockpot Salisbury Steak

Servings: 4–6
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 4–6 hours (Low)

Ingredients

  • 1½ lbs (680 g) ground beef
  • 1 cup sliced onions
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 (10.5 oz/300 g) can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt (optional, depending on the broth)
  • 2 tbsp oil (for browning)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Mix gently and form into 4–6 oval patties.
  2. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the patties for 2–3 minutes per side (they don’t need to be fully cooked).
  3. Place the sliced onions in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  4. Arrange the browned patties on top of the onions.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together the beef broth, cream of mushroom soup, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
  6. Pour the mixture over the patties.
  7. Cover and cook:
    • Low: 5–6 hours
    • High: 3–4 hours
  8. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, egg noodles, or steamed vegetables.

Tips

  • For a thicker gravy, stir 2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water into the slow cooker during the last 20–30 minutes of cooking.
  • Add sliced mushrooms for extra flavor.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley before serving if desired.
